A gathering of Democrats is more sweaty, disorderly, offhand, and rowdy than a gathering of Republicans; it is also likely to be more cheerful, imaginative, tolerant of dissent, and skillful at the game of give-and-take. Cornell Plantation maintains a natural area on Hanshaw Road, not far from my house, primarily to encourage the Fringed Gentians that grow there. It's amazing! Thousands of intense blue flowers in a meadow of an acre or so.
